The People of the Thicket
وَإِن كَانَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡأَيۡكَةِ لَظَٰلِمِينَ ٧٨
And the dwellers in the wood indeed were evil-doers.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
And the people of the thicket were wrongdoers.
Insight
According to Elmalılı, “ayka” means a dense thicket; its people, like Midian, were a nation to whom Shu‘ayb was sent, named so because their land was wooded.
Reflect
Don’t fall into wrongdoing amid blessings.
