Leave No Rancour in Our Hearts
And those who came (into the faith) after them say: Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who were before us in the faith, and place not in our hearts any rancour toward those who believe. Our Lord! Thou art Full of Pity, Merciful.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
“Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith, and put no rancour in our hearts towards those who believe.”
Insight
According to Elmalılı, these are those who came later to faith, to emigration or into the world; al-Farra’ explains them as those who believed in the Prophet’s last years.
