Comfort of the Eyes
وَٱلَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا هَبۡ لَنَا مِنۡ أَزۡوَٰجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّـٰتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعۡيُنࣲ وَٱجۡعَلۡنَا لِلۡمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا ٧٤
And who say: Our Lord! Vouchsafe us comfort of our wives and of our offspring, and make us patterns for (all) those who ward off (evil).
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
“Our Lord, grant us from our spouses and offspring comfort to our eyes, and make us leaders of the mindful.”
Insight
Elmalılı gives this prayer two meanings: “Grant us spouses and children who will be a comfort to our eyes” or “Grant us blessings through our spouses and children that comfort our eyes.”
