Lord of the Stakes
وَفِرۡعَوۡنَ ذِي ٱلۡأَوۡتَادِ ١٠
And with Pharaoh, firm of might.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
And Pharaoh, lord of the stakes?
Insight
Elmalılı recalls that “awtad” means stakes and is also used in the Qur’an for mountains. Pharaoh’s power and rule were like firm stakes; still they fell.
Reflect
Use your strength to protect others, not to crush them.
