Orphanhood
أَلَمۡ يَجِدۡكَ يَتِيمࣰا فَـَٔاوَىٰ ٦
Did He not find thee an orphan and protect (thee).
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
Did He not find you an orphan and give you shelter?
Insight
Elmalılı draws attention to Allah’s name ‘al-Wajid’ here: the One who finds, who brings into being and who is rich. It is He who ‘finds’ the orphan and gives shelter.
Reflect
Who do you remember as having ‘sheltered’ you and stood by you in life?
